Free Blogging Platforms

There are free Blogging Platforms that you may consider using if you want to have your own blog site but do not want to buy a domain and hosting subscription. Unlike self-hosted blogs, you are only getting a subdomain if you choose this way. A subdomain looks like http://www.yourblogname.blogspot.com but you can also buy your own domain (http://yourblogname.com) in any domain registrar and import it to your chosen free blogging software.

List of Top 4 Free Blogging Platforms:

1. Blogger/Blogsite – Google bought Blogger in 2003 and expanded the features for those who want to try blogging for free. It has a friendly dashboard which you can easily learn. The good thing in Blogger is you can create unlimited blog sites which other free blogging platforms do not offer and it is also already connected to your other account in Google like YouTube and Google Adsense and Gmail.

2. WordPress – WordPress is the no.1 blogging platform for self-hosted bloggers, but you can also use it for free. Like the others, it also offers its bloggers a friendly dashboard and ability to customize anything in their blogs. If you encounter problems while editing, you are free to visit their forum which has many web developers and experienced bloggers. The only drawback I see in using WordPress is you can’t put ads like Google Adsense and the like in your blog posts but you may post your affiliate link if your main goal is to earn money. Not to confuse, www.wordpress.com is the url for free blogging site while www.wordpress.org is for self-hosted blog.

3. Weebly – The best about Weebly is it is literally the best for those bloggers who want to just stay on one page to edit anything they like. Weebly offers its bloggers a drag and drop dashboard. You don’t literally need technical skills to create a blog in Weebly.

4. Tumblr – Tumblr is very different from other free blogging platforms above because it is more like Facebook that gives you the ability to follow other users and share their posts. Like the others, it caters a friendly dashboard or profile and give you the opportunity to share your ideas. Most of the posts I see in Tumblr are images and quotes. It is considered a blogging site because you can make money by posting your ideas.

These are the best blogging platforms I tried so far. I advise you to give them first a try before buying your first domain and hosting subscription. Test yourself if you are really serious and fit in the world of blogging. If you want to upgrade by having your own domain and hosting, you, at any moment, may transfer your files from Blogger or WordPress to your new buy subscription. Not similar to self-hosted blog, the companies behind these platforms may delete your blog if they see that you break they rules. So before you register, make sure that you understand their TOS or Terms of Service.

Goodluck to your blogging adventure!
